No. You will be fully conscious throughout the session. Hypnosis is not sleep, though it can sometimes feel sleep-like. You will hear everything the therapist says, be able to respond, and will remember the session afterwards — unless specific amnesia techniques are deliberately employed for therapeutic reasons, which are always explained and consented to in advance.
Yes. When conducted by a certified professional, clinical hypnotherapy is entirely safe. It is non-invasive, drug-free and has no known serious side effects. You are always in control and can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state at any point.
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions about hypnosis. You cannot be made to say anything you don't wish to say, do anything against your values, or reveal information you want to keep private. Your subconscious mind acts as a protector — it will reject any suggestion that conflicts with your core values or safety. A qualified therapist would never attempt such suggestions anyway; doing so would be a serious ethical violation.
